What to Expect During Your Therapeutic Ketamine Infusion

At Integrated-Ketamine, we provide a safe and supportive environment for your therapeutic ketamine infusion. Each session typically lasts between 45 minutes and 1 hour, and our team will be with you every step of the way to ensure your comfort and well-being.

Bring a Trusted Sitter with You For Each Ketamine Experience.

For your safety and comfort, we ask that you bring a trusted sitter with you to your scheduled ketamine infusion. Your sitter will remain with you during the infusion to provide support and ensure that you are at ease throughout the process. Ketamine can induce temporary changes in perception, mood, and coordination, so having someone familiar with you is important for your well-being.

Additionally, your sitter will be responsible for driving you home after your session, as you should not drive until the following day. The effects of ketamine can impair motor skills and cognition for several hours after the infusion, and it’s essential that you have someone to assist you. After the infusion, your sitter will help ensure that you are safe and comfortable as the effects wear off. We recommend they stay with you for the remainder of the day to provide any necessary assistance until the ketamine has fully cleared from your system, which is generally by the next day. Your safety is our top priority, and having a trusted companion with you will support a smooth and secure experience.

During the Infusion:

When you receive your ketamine infusion, you will be seated in a comfortable chair in a quiet room. We’ll attach a small IV line to administer the ketamine, and you can expect the infusion to begin slowly. As the ketamine enters your system, you may notice subtle changes in your perception, such as:

  • A sense of relaxation or calm

  • Visual or sensory distortions (like colors seeming brighter or shapes shifting)

  • Mild dissociation, where you may feel disconnected from your body or surroundings

  • A feeling of lightness or floating

Some patients report feeling as though they are observing their thoughts and emotions from a distance, which can create a sense of clarity or insight. This experience is unique for each person, and some may feel more intense effects while others feel more subtle changes.

Throughout the infusion, we will monitor your vital signs to ensure your safety and comfort. You may feel sleepy or have difficulty concentrating, but the effects are temporary and will gradually wear off once the infusion is complete. You will have time to relax and recover before leaving the clinic.

After the Infusion:

The immediate effects of ketamine typically wear off within a couple of hours, but it’s important to give yourself time to rest and integrate the experience. You may feel more relaxed, calm, or reflective in the hours following your infusion. Some patients report a sense of emotional relief or clarity, while others may experience lingering mild effects like lightheadedness or slight dizziness.

It’s important to avoid driving or operating heavy machinery for the rest of the day after your infusion. Your motor skills and cognition may be temporarily impaired, so make sure you arrange for transportation and take time to relax after your session.

In the Days Following the Infusion:

In the days following your infusion, you may notice ongoing shifts in your mood, thought patterns, or emotional state. Some patients report feeling more grounded, less anxious, or experiencing relief from depressive symptoms. Others may have a more gradual sense of well-being over time.

It’s normal to have a range of emotions and experiences in the days after your infusion. Some people feel improvements immediately, while others may take a few days to notice significant changes. Be patient with yourself as your body and mind adjust to the treatment.

Journaling Your Experience:

To maximize the therapeutic benefits of ketamine, we recommend keeping a journal of your experience within 24 hours of each infusion. This will help you track your thoughts, emotions, and any changes you notice, and provide valuable insight as you move through your treatment process. Journaling can be an important tool in reflecting on your healing journey and helping you understand how the ketamine therapy is affecting you.

The Treatment Process:

Patients may require up to 6 infusions to achieve and maintain a therapeutic effect. While some people experience improvement after just a few sessions, others may need more time for the full benefits to be felt. Each infusion builds upon the previous one, so consistency is key to your progress.

We are committed to supporting you throughout your treatment journey and are here to help you along the way. If you have any questions or concerns before, during, or after your infusion, our team is always available to assist you.

Take the first step toward healing today—your path to greater emotional well-being is within reach.
